I recently had the pleasure of photographing Matt & Emily at the grounds of Hotel Villa Cimbrone on the beautiful Almafi Coast in Italy. There was never a shortage of amazing locations or backdrops to look for. It felt like every where we walked to was perfect, from lush gardens to old world structures. Both these two are nothing short of amazing, I love when couples can have that connection and just enjoy each others company. The romance that Italy has from the food to the country was more then abundant and made a perfect setting for an intimate shoot.

Great photos deserved to be shown on a great product. I could not be more thrilled to offer Madera books to everyone.

It is not the easiest journey to find an album company that you are proud to share. I really believe they offer a quality product that is gorgeous and timeless. No need to worry if your album will still be stylish in 20 years, because there is nothing gimmicky that you would regret. A few of my favorite parts of the book..

• the gutter, it is nonexistent!

• the option to embed font on the cover, or a photo if you wish.

• the thick pages that don’t bend and make the photos pop off the page.

• the fact that they recognize how AWESOME they are!

There is no better way to share your photos with friends and family then a well-made album that will last a lifetime. I wanted to share a few pictures of a 6×6 album with linen cover from a recent couple shoot.

2012 has come to and end and I am ready for 2013. It was an exciting year to say the least. I traveled a bunch and shot a lot of wedding! Instagram has got to be one of the most popular apps out there, I check my feed every couple of hours. Looking back, there were so many great photos I posted on instagram.. all with my iPhone camera. I wanted to share 11 of my favorite photos that reminded me of my past year. These are in no particular order.. just ones that stood out to me. Whether it was perfect lighting, traveling abroad, or getting stung by a sting ray for the first time in 10 years! If you are on instagram, lets be friends! @josephmatthewsd

BONUS! Some cool Instagram sites I recommend checking out are Staigram and Canvas Pop. Staigram is a cool way to check out all of your instagram stats. Canvas Pop is a fun way to print your instagram photos to canvas. I use both of them and think they are 2 of the best sites out there!

Frank & Brenda – Twin Oaks Garden Estate wedding

Where has the summer gone!? I don’t have anything against the winter time– but I never look forward to pulling out the jackets and sweaters. This wedding season was AH-Mazing and I still can’t believe how many wedding I got to shoot this summer. Frank and Brenda got married at the Twin Oaks Garden Estate on a sunny day in July. One of my favorite things about the venue was it was tucked away outside of San Marcos on a large estate. The property has a vintage chic feel and there are all kinds of nooks and crannies to discover. I really liked the old school house building– it really is for a bride that wants something different then a traditional hotel or resort.

Frank and Brenda were amazing to shoot with– even though they did not see each other before the wedding they kept asking about the other. I just knew there would be a lot of emotion when Brenda walked down the aisle. As they stood at the alter you could not help but notice the connection they have with each other! Lots of tears, but just as much laughing and enjoying the moment. After a fun evening, we ended the night with one final kiss under some twinkling night lights. They had such a stunning summer wedding in San Diego and I am extremely happy to share images from their day.

Andrea & Rj – Catamaran Resort beach wedding

This post is long over due! Andrea & Rj were nothing short of amazing on their wedding day. From their first look to the ceremony on the sand, these two could not take their eyes off of each other. I was very fortunate to assist my friend Savady Photography with this wedding. We had never worked together before, but her relaxed shooting style and eye for capturing beauty made for a super fun day.

Blush Summer Wedding – The Grand Del Mar

San Diego is stacked with great wedding venues, and at the top of the list is The Grand Del Mar. This lavish venue hosts many spectacular wedding through out the year. Earlier this summer I shot images of another amazing wedding by Karen Tran Events. The huge center pieces are always in abundance, but my favorite are all of the details in the overall design.

Such amazing light was pouring in through the windows of the chapel! It made for some great photos.

New York City trip

Took a trip to New York City this past spring, I had a lot to check out in a short amount of time. It was overwhelming where to start out, but my pal Victor Sizemore had some great recommendations for where to start. Since I was traveling alone I just walked all over Manhattan and only took a cab when necessary. I was most interested in checking out the city life and not looking to visit the normal NYC attractions. From under ground bars like the 124 Old Rabbit club to getting a great barbering at Freeman’s New York was filled with tons of gems. I was able to capture some great photos at the High Line Park, Brooklyn Bridge, and Central Park. There is much more to check out and looking forward to the next trip to the city!

Elegant English countryside – Santaluz Country Club

I could not be more thrilled to share these images. The theme of the photo shoot was an Elegant English countryside with a vintage look. Every aspect of the shoot was amazing from the vintage tea tin’s that held the beautiful floral arrangements to the basset-hound with a floral collar. I had such a great time snapping photos with the bride around Santaluz, we even got in a few rounds of putt-putt during the shoot! A big thank you to San Diego’s most talented wedding vendors Karen Tran Events and J. Grace for all of their beautiful work.

Haiku Mill, Maui

As if I was not already amazed with everything in Maui, I came across Haiku Mill. A 150 year old sugar mill that has been converted into a stunning wedding venue. The entire property embraces the feel of Maui and builds upon it with an old world French vibe. With out a doubt, Haiku Mill is one of the most charming and unique venue I have ever been to. The director of the property was extremely accommodating, by giving us a tour of the property and a history overview. Even better, I was allowed to take pictures of all the gems located through out the venue. Looking forward to the day when I can go back to Maui. Haiku Mill will defiantly be a mandatory stop on my next trip!

Solana Beach vintage photo shoot

Cedros design district in Solana Beach is a beautiful location and I have always wanted to do a photo shoot there. The train station it self is a work of art. It made for a lovely back drop for many photos during my photo shoot with Mimi. All of the outfits were put together by Mimi herself. I really like collaborating with others that have great style and a unique look. It makes everything fall into place and create gorgeous images.
